TMJ/GRINDING THERAPY
Say Goodbye to Jaw Pain, Headaches, and Stiffness with TMJ Therapy
If you’re waking up with a tight jaw, facial pain, headaches, or neck stiffness caused by clenching or grinding your teeth, TMJ therapy could be the solution for you.
Stress is a natural part of life, but it can manifest physically through habits like jaw clenching and teeth grinding, which may lead to significant oral health problems.
What Is the TMJ?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) plays a crucial role in jaw movement and function. Problems in this joint can arise from factors such as misaligned teeth, physical trauma, or excessive muscle tension. TMJ complications may result in symptoms like:
Headaches and earaches
Jaw popping or clicking
Muscle pain in the jaw
Soreness extending to the face
At Gelinas Dental Studio, our team specializes in identifying the root causes of TMJ-related pain and creating tailored treatment plans. These may include custom night guards, or referrals to specialists like chiropractors or physiotherapists.
Who Can Benefit from TMJ Therapy?
TMJ therapy may be right for you if you experience:
Teeth clenching during sleep
Craze lines (fine cracks) in your teeth
Teeth cracking or breaking
Morning jaw pain
Small notches along the gumline
Frequent headaches or neck stiffness
What to Expect from TMJ Therapy at Gelinas Dental Studio
TMJ therapy involves two key appointments:
First Appointment
During the initial visit, our team will conduct a comprehensive TMJ assessment. This includes evaluating your jaw’s range of motion, detecting muscle tension, and checking for clicking, crepitus (crackling sounds), or nerve asymmetry. Since TMJ appliances vary, this detailed assessment ensures we select the right solution for your needs. Afterward, we’ll take a digital scan of your teeth and send it to our lab to create your custom appliance.
Second Appointment
At your follow-up visit, you’ll receive your new custom-fitted appliance. Our team will guide you on how to properly insert, remove, and clean it. We’ll also discuss the benefits of wearing your night guard and the potential risks of leaving TMJ issues untreated.
