Common Dental Emergencies

1. Dental Trauma

A knocked-out permanent tooth is a critical emergency. If your tooth falls out due to injury or illness, gently rinse the root if it’s intact and attempt to reinsert it into the socket in the correct orientation right away. If you can do this within 30 minutes, research indicates a significantly higher success rate for saving your original tooth.

  • Tip: If immediate reinsertion isn’t possible, store the tooth in saliva (for example, in your cheek) or in milk. Make sure to seek dental care within two hours of the incident.

2. Dental Abscess

A dental abscess is a serious infection that can escalate quickly if left untreated. Swelling can spread and potentially affect your overall health, making prompt treatment essential.

3. Bleeding Gums

If you experience spontaneous gum bleeding yet maintain regular cleanings and check-ups, this may indicate a more serious underlying issue and should be considered a dental emergency.

4. Broken Cusp of a Molar

A broken cusp typically isn’t considered a dental emergency unless you’re in severe pain. In most cases, we’ll schedule you for the next available appointment to address the issue.

What to Expect from Your Emergency Visit

To properly diagnose your dental issue, we will:

1. Take an X-Ray: This helps us pinpoint the cause and extent of the problem.

2. Conduct a 15–30 Minute Exam: Our dentist will evaluate your situation and discuss possible solutions.

3. Provide a Clear Treatment Plan: Once we have the necessary information, we’ll outline your options for resolving your dental emergency.

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, don’t wait—contact Gelinas Dental Studio right away. We’re here to help you get the urgent care you need and get you back to smiling comfortably.
